Self-less
In the early months of 2025, and (by God’s grace) the first months in our church building, we will focus our attention on Jesus. Specifically we will explore various accounts and parables of Jesus from Matthews gospel, in hopes that we and our one more persons will clearly see his selfless heart.
Through our study of Jesus, as recorded in Matthew, along with an optional-and-encouraged shared Lenten devotional, may we lay down our “do more and be better” approach to life so that we might instead come to Jesus. May we come to think of ourselves less, that our deepest desire would be to become Christ-centered in all areas of life.
February 2nd - Comes into the World (Matthew 1-2)
February 16th - Baptism and Temptation (Matthew 3-4)
February 23rd - The Beautitudes (Matthew 5-7)
March 2nd - Calling of Matthew (Matthew 9 & 11)
March 16th - Healing on Sabbath (Matthew 12)
March 23rd - Walking on Water (Matthew 14)

April 27th - Great Commission (Matthew 28)

Sermon Series | Prayers of the People
Overview:
Revelation 5:8 contains the beautiful image of the prayers of God’s people being presented to the
Lamb on his throne, as incense filling up golden bowls. And thus we see the importance of the
pragmatic instruction in Ephesians 6:18 - And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of
prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s
people.
The hunger for prayer and desire to pray is bubbling in Storyhill, and yet there are plenty of
questions about what prayer is and should look like. We want to take our summer
months to look at a variety of prayers from the Bible. We will offer some practicalities for
prayer, to be sure, but we are primarily giving permission to take all requests and all situations to
our Father who is in heaven. He is with us and he hears the prayers of his people, whether we are
confident or not.
Know: We can pray (in the Spirit) on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. (c.f.
Ephesians 6:18)
Do: Go to God with something specific that we don’t often/ever take to God … and see what
happens.

There is Always More
Date | Thursday, July 10 from 7:00-8:30 PM
Led by | Bill and Katie Satterwhite (Ministry Partners | Storyhill Prayer Room Intercessors)
Imagine if you could text with God. Better yet, what if you could call God on your cell phone anytime you had a question, a need, or a problem? And what if God could contact you anytime He wanted to tell you something? Prayer is Heaven’s cell phone for conversing with God. It is a gift that informs our earthly adventure with the God of the universe, the Creator of all things, including you! Yet sometimes praying feels like a foreign thing, like trying to participate in an unknown language. In this one-session class, Bill and Katie Satterwhite will share their personal testimonies and address common questions that they have had and sometimes still have:
Why can’t I hear from God?
What if I hear from God but am afraid to do what He is telling me to do?
I don’t know how things are going to turnout or where they are going to go. Any advice?
Sometimes, I don’t even know what to pray. My problems seem too big, personal, or even small for God. He has more important things to deal with.

Unravel the mystery of how you’re wired—and how others tick—in this game-changing evening with Dr. Jay Zinn. Married or single, employer or co-worker, you’ll walk away with the ultimate toolkit to confidently communicate, bridge differences, and turn every interaction with others into a win.

The Adventure and Gift of Prayer
Date | Saturday, August 2 from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
Led by | Bill and Katie Satterwhite
Our modern life is not conducive to prayer. Sometimes our spirits can feel dry and thirsty for the presence of God, like a dry, wilted plant in need of water, or like a dry, hard sponge that can’t even function as a sponge until it gets some water! Practicing the Presence of God through prayer is living water for a thirsty soul. Still, most of us are so busy getting things done for God that we forget to be with God, allowing time and space for the Holy Spirit to bring living water to our spirits.
Katie and Bill Satterwhite will facilitate a day retreat for prayer on Saturday, August 2, from 9:00 to 3:00. This day is a chance to pull away from the busyness of life and join a smaller group for teaching, discussion, and experiencing the Presence of God through prayer in solitude and in a group. Rest assured: no one will call on you or make you pray out loud! Come and see and learn in a safe and quiet place where the love of God will fill your thirsty soul. The Adventure and Gift of Prayer will take place at Storyhill Church.
Coffee and lunch will be provided.

Reshaping Our View of Finances

Led by | Mike Whittington
So many voices speak into our personal (or familial) view of money. The world, our family of origin, our life experiences, the church…we could go on. These voices can create fear and guilt, or hope and freedom if you can believe it.
The Bible has 2,350 verses that inspire, protect, and redirect our perspectives regarding money. You have been given personal gifts by the God of the universe, who gives you the freedom to choose how you will “steward” them.
This class will point you towards utilizing modern and simple tools to help organize and streamline your financial and career decisions.
Freedom can be found for all of us. There is hope and inspiration to be found in every situation! Come join a community of people seeking hope, freedom, and empowerment in their finances

An optional 30-minute Q&A will follow each session for thosewho want to dig deeper or discuss further.

Prayer on the Porch
As unrest, uncertainty and division seem to only grow more pronounced in the world around us, let us be ever more attentive to the power of praying together. Please join us on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:30 for Community Prayer on the Porch.
This 30 minute gathering, hosted by Gethsemane Baptist Church (565 Jetton St.), has become a powerful time of spiritual encouragement and unity in the church.

Communion Sunday
Communion, like baptism, is a sacrament, meaning it is both a symbol and an assurance of God’s covenantal love. There is a symbolic nature to communion, like baptism, in that it paints a picture of how Jesus loves his followers. And yet, it is not simply symbolic. In communion, we are strengthened by God’s love.
With communion, we remember the last meal Jesus shared with his first disciples before his crucifixion. Luke 22:14-16 - When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”
When the first Christians saw the crucifixion of Jesus, they understood what he meant when he said his body would be broken for us, and his blood would be poured out for us. Jesus offered himself willingly as the Ultimate Passover Lamb, whose sacrifice invites us to experience God’s mercy, whose blood seals his followers into a covenantal relationship with God now and forever.
How do we discern the body of Christ in communion? (1) In communion, we remember we are united with Jesus. In communion, we discern the body of Christ by recognizing that Jesus was broken and poured out for us. Jesus was crucified willingly to move our lives in a new direction as people who can be sealed in a covenantal relationship with God, as we say YES to Jesus. In communion, we remember that Jesus was [point] broken for us. So that we might be forever united with him, forever walk with him.
If you would like to read more about Storyhill Communion, feel free to read Lead Teaching Pastor Michael Flake’s latest sermon on the subject.

COMMUNITY: Art + Faith
The Art + Faith group will meet once a month to explore how our faith shapes both what we create and how we create it. Together, we’ll also consider how the act of creating draws us closer to God, strengthens our community, and forms us more fully into the loving image of Christ.
In the coming months, we’ll be reading and discussing Walking on Water by Madeleine L’Engle. This modern classic examines the intersection of faith and creativity. Please purchase a copy (print or digital) from your preferred bookseller. To support local business, we’ve arranged for Main Street Books in Davidson to have copies available.

Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday is a time of celebration, renewal, and joy as we worship the resurrected Jesus together. This year, Easter holds special significance as it marks our first Easter in the new building!
Join us on Sunday, April 20, 2025, for a meaningful time of worship, reflection, and community. This is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends, family, and neighbors to experience the hope of the gospel. We look forward to celebrating with you as we continue to see God’s faithfulness in this season of growth. Stay tuned for more details, and let's prepare our hearts for this special day!
P.S. To help make room for guests, we encourage our regular attendees to attend the 9:15 AM service if possible. Also, please note that Middle School Pathfinders will not be meeting on Easter Sunday so families can worship together. The Youth Room will also serve as overflow if the Sanctuary is at capacity.

LENT | 40 Days of Decrease - wk 7
As Easter approaches, we invite everyone to participate in the season of Lent by using 40 Days of Decrease, a Lenten devotional by Alicia Britt Chole.
For centuries, followers of Jesus have found it meaningful to prepare their hearts, minds, and bodies for Easter by removing distractions and deepening their focus on their need for a Savior. As the book puts it, the goal of Lent is to “thin our lives” in order to “thicken our communion with God.” Through 40 different practices, Chole guides us in orienting ourselves toward the grace of Jesus.
Lent is not meant to be done alone—it’s a season best observed in the community. Whether with your family, community group, or another group, we encourage you to engage together. One opportunity to do this is by joining the 40 Days of Decrease Discussion Group at Storyhill. Starting on March 2nd and running through April 13th, we’ll meet at the church (496 South main Street, Davidson) on Sunday afternoons from 2:00–3:30 PM. Each week, we’ll reflect on the Lenten practices and share insights from the devotional. Whether you’re new to Lent, curious about it, or already committed to observing the season, there’s a place for you in this group!
Participants will need a 40 Days of Decrease copy to join the discussion. You can purchase it online for about $10 (e-book and audiobook versions are available). If cost is a concern, we have copies available for you to keep.
