During the summer of 2023, as everyone is rejoicing that they don’t have to hear references to Taco Bell, we will dive deeper into three people in the Old Testament, spending three weeks on each: Job, Abraham, and Ruth. We will draw insights and encouragement for our lives while also admiring the remarkable ways that God would continue working through their stories, even generations later.
As we consider their stories, we cannot help but reflect on our own and ask that God might do something similar to ours. (To summarize Leon Kass in The Beginning of Wisdom: Through our lives, God delivers a promise to those who will be born after we die.)
May we hold ourselves to the discipline of telling God stories as we reflect on – and even write down – our own God stories. And may we hold ourselves to the discipline of trusting our own stories into the hands of an amazing, ever-surprising God.
