serve in our community

We believe God has uniquely placed each of us in our local community with a command to love and serve our neighbors, demonstrating the goodness and mercy of God through what we say and do.

Access2Success Packing Day

Access2Success provides sustainable programs that generate positive change for Nigerian children and their communities. Once a quarter, this team serves with Access2Success by packing and sorting shoes for their students in Nigeria. Packing Day is an excellent opportunity to serve locally with one of our mission partners that does work globally. Our next opportunity will be Saturday, February 28th. To sign up to serve, please register below.

Ada Jenkins Food Pantry

The Ada Jenkins Center exists to help people in our community create lasting solutions for economic stability. On the 2nd Saturday of every month, volunteers from Storyhill staff the Ada Jenkins Food Pantry. This is an excellent opportunity to help meet one of the most basic needs of our neighbors. There are a variety of roles to serve and love our neighbors at the pantry.

If you’d like more information or are interested in serving, please email Rebecca Esque.

Alongside Families

Alongside Families is an organization dedicated to preventing children from entering foster care unnecessarily during family crises. They achieve this by connecting isolated families with local church communities that offer safe, loving homes through volunteer host families. These families temporarily care for children while parents work to restore stability in their lives. Storyhill has established a Circle to support families in crisis, and there are various ways to get involved, such as serving as a host family, babysitter, parent mentor, providing meals and supplies, or simply offering friendship to struggling parents.

To learn more about joining the Storyhill Alongside Families Circle, email Jen Sidden.

Campus Ministry Visits

Davidson College has several campus ministries that we support as mission partners, including Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) and InterVarsity. Our team visits these ministries about three times each semester to bring food to their events and connect with students—many of whom are part of the Storyhill community. If you’d love to support college students by providing a meal or engaging in meaningful conversations, we’d love for you to join us!

Email college@storyhill.org to get involved.

Room in the Inn

During the coldest months of the year, churches across Charlotte open their doors to welcome neighbors experiencing homelessness—and in 2025, Storyhill is joining in! We’re building a team to launch Room in the Inn, and we need you to help make it happen.

A few of the ways to serve include: setting and packing up | build community by sharing a meal | driving guests | staying overnight at the church with participants | and more.

This is more than just providing shelter—it’s about showing radical hospitality and sharing God’s love in a tangible way.

Worship at the Pines

The Pines is a retirement community and nursing home in Davidson. On the 3rd Sunday of each month, a team from Storyhill hosts a small worship service for residents who are unable to attend church elsewhere. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve and encourage the elderly by sharing your musical gifts or leading a short devotional.

If you’d like to be part of this ministry, please email James Mitchell at james@growlingfish.net.

YoungLives Childcare

Charlotte YoungLives is a discipleship ministry of YoungLife that serves pregnant and parenting teen moms and dads. This team serves in childcare at YoungLives’ bi-monthly Thursday evening events for teen moms, loving on and playing with babies and toddlers so that teen parents can hear the gospel. Ages 16 & under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

For more information or to sign up to serve, please email Buffy Lentz.

Christmas Mission | Caring for Neighbors Facing Food Insecurity

Each Christmas, we look for meaningful ways to share the hope and mercy of Jesus, as a church family, to celebrate the birth of the One who sees and cares for those in need. This Christmas, mission will be alleviating food insecurity in our community. This past Christmas, we collected food for those experiencing food insecurity. Our church came together to donate 691 lbs of food to the Ada Jenkins Food Pantry!

Serve Day

On Serve Day our Sunday worship takes the form of serving in our community! We will serve at various projects across Lake Norman and Charlotte. Serving together is one of our foundational practices, and we invite you to join us as we engage in the Holy Spirit’s redemptive mission right in our backyard.

We have projects that are family-friendly, indoors, and at our church building to accommodate various needs. If you prefer for your Sunday worship to take the form of a church service, we invite you to worship with our sister church, Gethsemane Baptist, at 10 am.

Are you interested in helping with planning, logistics, or leadership? Email missions@storyhill.org.

Back to School Supply Drive

Each summer our sister church, Gethsemane Baptist Church collects donations for their annual back-to-school supply drive. We support them by collecting school supplies. Every donation makes a difference! Let’s set students up for success by contributing supplies or making a monetary donation.
