Serve in our Community

We believe that God has uniquely placed each of us in our local community with a command to love and serve our neighbors, demonstrating the goodness and mercy of God through what we say and do.

Serve Day

During Storyhill Serve Day, our Sunday worship takes the form of going out and serving in our community. Teams serve nearly twenty different projects, hoping to meet a need for an organization doing great work in our backyard. Serving together is one of our foundational practices as a church family, and we hope that Serve Day will be one way that we discover more about how we can engage in the Holy Spirit’s redemptive mission.

Serve Day will be on October 13th.

Christmas Initiatives

During the holiday season (November - December) Storyhill dives into a flurry of festive initiatives, including a heartwarming coat drive alongside Gethsemane Baptist Church and a joyful collaboration with the YMCA through our Angel Tree project. Stay tuned for more details on how you can make a difference and bring joy to those in need this holiday season.

Back to School Supply Drive

Our sister church, Gethsemane Baptist Church, is collecting donations for its annual back-to-school supply drive. We are supporting them by collecting school supplies. Please see the list on our events page or shop here on our Amazon wish list. Donations can be dropped off at the church cotton mill office (209 Delburg St. in Davidson) M-F 8 am - 6 pm from Aug. 5-16 or at church on Sundays at the LKN YMCA on Aug 4, 11, and 18. This year, Gethsemane will not have an event to hand out supplies. Instead, they will donate supplies to a specific CMS school in need.

Access 2 Success Packing Day

Packing Day is an excellent opportunity to serve locally with one of our mission partners that works globally. Families are welcome to serve together (recommended for ages 5 and up). Once a quarter, we serve with Access 2 Success by packing and sorting shoes for their students in Nigeria.

Our next A2S Packing Day will be Saturday, August 10th. If you’d like to join, please register here.

Ada Jenkins Food Pantry

The Ada Jenkins Center exists to help people in our community create lasting solutions for economic stability. On the 2nd Saturday of every month, volunteers from Storyhill staff the Ada Jenkins Food Pantry. This is an excellent opportunity to help meet one of the most basic needs of our neighbors. There are a variety of roles to serve and love our neighbors at the pantry.

If you’d like more information about this opportunity or are interested in serving, please email Rebecca Esque.

Alongside Families

Alongside Families is an organization dedicated to preventing children from entering foster care unnecessarily during family crises. They achieve this by connecting isolated families with local church communities that offer safe, loving homes through volunteer host families. These families temporarily care for children while parents work to restore stability in their lives. Storyhill has established a Circle to support families in crisis, and there are various ways to get involved, such as serving as a host family, babysitter, parent mentor, providing meals and supplies, or simply offering friendship to struggling parents. To learn more about joining the Storyhill Alongside Families Circle, email Jen Sidden.

Charlotte Rescue Mission

Charlotte Rescue Mission provides free, faith-based residential recovery programs to people struggling with addiction. On the 4th Saturday of every month, this team prepares and serves dinner to the male residents at CRM’s Rebound location in Charlotte. Team members prepare dinner alongside the residents, so it is an excellent opportunity to get to know and learn from those in recovery. (Ages 13+)

YoungLives Childcare

Charlotte YoungLives is a discipleship ministry of YoungLife that serves pregnant and parenting teen moms and dads. This team serves in childcare at YoungLives’ bi-monthly Thursday evening events for teen moms, loving on and playing with babies and toddlers so that teen parents can hear the gospel. Ages 16 & under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

For more information or to sign up to serve, please email Buffy Lentz.
